After going through the course, Fellows will be able to:

Develop appreciation for health promotion principles, practice and methods

  • Define health promotion, its scope and range
  • Describe health promotion principles, practice, methods, strategies and trends and their role in public health and health systems
  • Apply health communication, advocacy, social mobilization, social marketing, and policy-based approaches

Demonstrate leadership in health promotion

  • Reflect on their own leadership qualities, styles and roles
  • Enhance personal leadership style and identify areas for improvement
  • Demonstrate intermediate level skills in effective communication and building relationships
  • Describe how to develop sustainable partnerships and healthy alliances to advance health promotion

Demonstrate management skills in health promotion

  • Demonstrate skills in needs assessment, prioritizing, target setting, designing and implementing interventions, and monitoring and evaluation of health promotion programmes
  • Describe how governance influences attainment of health promotion goals
  • Identify the variety of health promotion infrastructures for building capacity and multi-sectoral collaboration
  • Describe financing options and fund management approaches to advance health promotion activities
  • Utilize quality improvement tools in implementing a health promotion project

Develop and implement a health promotion project

  • Identify specific challenges of health promotion in their country using a capacity mapping users’ manual and tool
  • Prioritize areas for intervention through a collaborative process involving colleagues and mentors
  • Plan, implement and evaluation a health promotion project that addresses one of the priority areas/needs
  • Define project objectives, priority actions and specific project deliverables
  • Describe activities toward the implementation of the project plan
  • Describe plans, tools and results of the project evaluation
