Pilot testing of the regional leadership training programme for health promotion: Prolead I

WHO then collaborated with SEAMEO TROPMED Network to conduct a pilot test of Prolead (Prolead I) involving six countries (China, Fiji, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Tonga) with teams focusing on new and autonomous infrastructure and sustainable financing for the promotion of health. The theme of Prolead I was “securing infrastructure and financing for health promotion”. Fellows participated in the WHO WPRO Regional Meeting on the Economic Gains of Promoting Health (November 2004). A matching programme between fellows and mentors was handled by La Trobe University. The pilot was completed in March 2005.

Collaboration with WHO Kobe Centre initiated

In September 2004, preliminary discussions with WHO Kobe Centre (WKC) tackled collaboration to support participants in Prolead I for the 6th Global Conference on Health Promotion and the tie-in work on infrastructure and financing for health promotion with a capacity-building agenda under the WHO Kobe Centre.

Consensus for expansion of Prolead to other Regions discussed

In October 2004, Prolead was discussed among the regional advisers/focal persons for health promotion and a consensus was agreed upon regarding implementation of Prolead II involving teams from AFRO, EMRO, SEARO and WPRO with support and in close collaboration with WKC.
